  • star rating  La Revolucion blew me away the moment I walked toward the gorgeous, historic building that the restaurant is housed in. Upon entering you are greeted by the good-looking staff in... read more stylish work aprons that are of course Made in Mexico. This is where all the little "touches" began.

We were taken to a cozy table in the courtyard. We started our experience with cocktails, created by Mexico's premier Bartender and Beverage Director, Osvaldo Vazquez. My favorite was LA REVOLUCIÓN, Mezcal, chile poblano liqueur, sesame oil, citrus juice with a pepitas seed rim...absolutely outstanding. My daughter had PERRO CALLEJERO which was also just as good and also the LOLITA! The bar program is exceptionally creative and it was hard to choose which direction to take as everything sounded amazing.

We started our meal with a tostada amuse bouche followed by a sampling of their oysters - which were absolutely amazing. The meal continued with the octopus and pork belly tacos studded with crunchy chicarrones - fantastic! We also tried the tirradito which is marinated in a raspberry vinaigrette with ginger - phenomenal - with all that amazing food it was hard to imagine there could be more but out came the Tomahawk steak - which was plenty for the three of us - served with salsa, tortillas and beans...the presentation was amazing!

Additionally, the warm and caring service that we received from Alan M was perfect and sincere.

You cannot go wrong with selecting this wonderful restaurant to spend an evening in San Jose del Cabo. I cannot wait to come back on a night when the Dalton Gin Bar is in full swing too!

star rating  Cannot rave enough about La Revolucion!!! Marcela at the Montage recommended we try this restaurant and it was fantastic. We ordered their namesake cocktail, La Revolucion (Mezcal, chile poblano liqueur,... read more sesame oil, citruses juice and frosted with green seed powder), and knew it was going to be an amazing flavor-filled evening. We settled in with fish tacos and I think a soft-shelled crab taco, suckling pig turnovers, and the seriously unprecedentedly AMAZINGLY delicious pork loin (Pork Loin marinated in achiote, green pipian, roasted tomatoe, nopal). We ordered a little too much food, but it all sounded so good we just could not help ourselves. The pork loin was literally the best we have ever had. We don't often order pork loin as it can be dry and just sort of lackluster. This one was everything BUT lackluster, very, very juicy and the flavors out of this world - I would make it a priority and get to this restaurant if you are in the area. Truly delicious and fantastic service - Fabian was attentive, made good recommendations but knew to let us have some time, too!
Also great wine, we enjoyed the Don Leo Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz.
    We will be back!!

  • star rating  I wanted to love this place and picked this restaurant over La Lupita, Jazmin’s and Mark Grill. It is backed by a known chef and the ambience is amazing. Very... read more boujie, decor reminiscent of a trendy restaurant in LA or NY. Back patio is perfection. Here is what could use some help:

Service was good, sort of. Amazing crostini amuse bouche, but recommendations of what was good wasn’t super helpful. It was just confusing. Should have gone to Yelp or TripAdvisor first to see what people were recommending. Was recommended the ceviche, but was worried it had cilantro. Asked if I could order ceviche without the cilantro, server said absolutely, no problem. At the end of ordering, ask if I had any allergies. I responded “No cilantro”.

Dish comes with cilantro. Order the pork tacos as well. I say no cilantro just in case. Both the guac dipping sauce and the taco comes with cilantro.

Once I realize there is cilantro everywhere in the ceviche (which could have been left out), I stop eating it. Server realizes there is cilantro in it and apologizes. He asks if I want a replacement, and I politely decline. It’s not necessary. They bring me a replacement this time without cilantro, but I don’t want it and now I feel bad because I’m wasting food. The lady server tries to drop it off at my table, I decline. A third male server again tries to drop it off at my table, and I have to decline a third time.

I ask for the check quickly, and they come out with the check which includes the price of the ceviche. I honestly wouldn’t have minded paying for it if I forgot to mention the cilantro issue, but I didn’t. I said it three times. No cilantro with the ceviche. No cilantro with the taco. Yes I have an allergy. No cilantro. On the check it says under the ceviche comments “no come. Cilantro”. I ask the lady server, are you still asking me to pay for this. She says she’ll check. She comes back with the card processor. This time she punches in the amount and shows me the tip screen. I clarify, are you including the ceviche? She says yes. I say why? I didn’t eat it, and on your own admission, you said that you guys made a mistake.

They Finally adjust the bill, they apologize, and I exit out of the restaurant without anyone saying thank you or goodbye. Honestly, I went to three other restaurants yesterday on the Juan More Taco tour (highly recommend, Asadero Burritos El Don, Mark Grill, even Mariscos El Chino for a smoked marlin taco) and each place nailed it with no cilantro, better food and service. Can’t believe a place of this caliber couldn’t get this one request right, then tried to make me pay for it, and allowed me to walk out of the restaurant. Super disappointed! Never recommending or going back.

However,... read more on a Sunday not much was open and we decided to take a punt on the downstairs restaurant that looked much more civilised. Elegant space and splendid fusion cooking were our reward.

The signature cocktails were superb (can't remember exactly what I ordered but it was delicious, something with dried hibiscus flower garnish). A starter of Titrado - super fresh fish with Asian flavours of soy and ginger was a winner. The tomato rice suggested by our waiter was a silky delight. Better in fact than my lomo main which was a bit of a heavy slab of gorgeously caramelised meat. Taken home though it made excellent sandwiches with jalepenos and mayo stuffed in a baguette the next day. MIL devoured her Shrimp broth.

    2. The service was personal and extremely friendly. My husband is gluten intolerant which is an issue sometimes, but our server, Levy, took great efforts to explain the menu and see that our needs were met. He felt like a friend when we left. Pablo, the excellent bartender, also knowledgeably addressed the gluten issue. His variety of outstanding cocktails were unique and so good. He would dip the rims of the glasses in very unique salt, seeds, herbs...I don't know what it all was, but I can tell you I have never experienced something so different and good.
    3. The food was excellent. We experienced a huge steak that was so thick and tender and a pork loin steak that was also very good. I had a creamed rice and vegetable dish that was very good. What really made the food a step above were the side dishes and the sauces that accompanied them. Again, they were unusual and very tasty.
    4. Finally, we were surprised to find a restaurant of this quality and uniqueness but were very glad we did.

Except the one that matters: the food. Lots of “trying to impress”, but it was all missing the fundamentals.

The service was good, if a bit suffocating... we’d get a dish and the server would come immediately, multiple times to ensure we were happy. We chalked that up to culture and eager to please. It was fine.
